iMode
is a service of wireless cell phone Internet
connection
NTT
DoCoMo started this service in February 1999
in Japan and obtained over six million subscribers
14 month later. iMode consists of three technologies,
a smart handset, a new transmission protocol,
and a new markup language Compact HTML. DoCoMo
helps its official content providers customize
their iMode Web sites, although
subscribers can also browse non-official Web
sites.
DoCoMo will introduce the Third Generation (3G)
service with a starting speed of 64 kbps in
May 2001 and boost the speed to 2 megabits per
second, which is 200 times faster than current
CDMA,
by 2003. Allowing users to watch TV, listen
to music, and play games with a cell phone.
